Great Britain was at the 6th Nordic World Ski Championships , which took place from February 5 to 10, 1929 in Zakopane , Poland , with a line-up of eleven skiers, nine men and two women.

Participants and Results

The British athletes named in the official competitions only in ski jumping . Of the two registered jumpers, only Guy Nixon recently took part in the competition. He jumped 36.0 meters in the first run, but fell in the process and did not start in the second run.

The other participants competed in the international alpine downhill race , which the FIS did not include in the official competition program. Here, the well-known, long time scored Kitzbuehel living Scot Bill Bracken with the second place, the best British result. Guy Nixon, the ski jumper who set the British record of 60 meters on the Bolgenschanze in Davos in 1931, which was only surpassed by "Eddie the Eagle" Edwards in 1987 , came in sixth place, W. James Riddel took eighth place.

Two women took part in the alpine descent competition. This came about because the Polish Ski Association did not linguistically differentiate between men and women in its written invitation to the national ski associations, although the competition was only to be advertised for men. Sir Arnold Lunn took advantage of this ailment and registered two skiers with Audrey Sale-Barker and Doreen Elliot. The Polish organizers mistakenly interpreted the report from the Ski Club of Great Britain for the two women as a registration for cross-country skiing for the women. After the agreement with Lunn, the two were allowed to participate in the competition at least out of competition. How good the British skiers were was shown by the fact that they would have finished 13th and 14th after their running times.
