Norman Felton

Norman Felton (born April 29, 1913 in London , England - † June 25, 2012 in Santa Barbara , California ) was an American- born, British television film producer , known for his work in television programs such as The Man from UNCLE and Dr. Kildare , both released on NBC television .

Life

Felton was born in London, England, to the son of John Felton, a lithographer , and Gertrude Anne Felton, a cleaning lady . Felton left school to go to work at the age of 13. In 1929 the family moved to the United States , where they settled in Cleveland , Ohio . Felton dropped out of his job as a truck driver to attend The University of Iowa , where he received a bachelor's degree in 1940 and a master 's degree the following year . In 1940 Felton married Aline Stotts. They had three children together.

Career

Felton began directing in the theater before becoming a radio producer for NBC in Chicago . In 1950 he moved to New York City to direct live shows. In 1959 he won an Emmy for Robert Montgomery Presents .

Felton saw the heyday of his career in the 1960s when he played all of the classic television series, including The Man from UNCLE and Dr. Kildare, produced.

Felton offered James Bond actor Ian Fleming to star in his television production UNCLE . In 1965 Felton won the Golden Globe for the series The Man from UNCLE and an Emmy in 1966 for the same series.

Felton made a cameo on his television series UNCLE as a chess player in a party scene in the first episode, "The Giuoco Piano Affair".

At the time, he was also executive producer on all of the television series broadcast on NBC from 1962 to 1964: Wendell Corey , Jack Ging , Ralph Bellamy and The Eleventh Hour . He also produced

In 1975 he produced the television film Babe , for which he also received an Emmy, and in 1979 And Your Name Is Jona , also a television film. He also produced the Hawkins series , a drama starring James Stewart, and the prime-time soap Executive Suit .

In 1997 he was nominated for Lifetime Achievement to the Producers Guild of America .

Felton died of old age on June 25, 2012 in Santa Barbara, California at the age of 99.
