At around 100 kilometers, the Norra Anundsjöån is the longest of the three headwaters of the Moälven and has a catchment area of 818 square kilometers. It rises as Karpsjöbäcken in Över-Karpsjön at the foot of the Karpsjökasen mountain , north of the village of Tjärn in southern Lapland . It then flows through several small lakes in a swamp and is called Åselån. It changes its name again and is briefly called Åbosjöån, as it flows through Åbosjön . At this lake there is an approximately four thousand year old rock drawing , an elk painted on stone. Ten kilometers south-east of Solberg , the river joins the Solbergsån and from there bears the name Norra Anundsjöån. On the right bank of the river there is one of the largest wetlands in Västernorrland , the Pengsjökomplexet . At the height of Åskasjön on the left bank of the river is the Kubbe flygbas , named after the place Kubbe , one of the oldest inhabited places in Ångermanland.
In this section of the river there are several small rapids such as the Vintermyrforsen at the level of the Kubbe flygbas, the Djupdalsforsen at the level of the southern tip of the Åskasjön and the Djupmyrforsen south of Seltjärn . Between Seltjärn and Kubbe has the Norra Anundsjöån many backwater , Swedish korvsjö (Wurstsee). These are horseshoe-shaped former river sections that have either silted up and can still be guessed in the landscape, or small ponds that are cut off from the main stream. Shortly before Kubbe, the Agnsjöån coming from the Agnsjön flows into the Norra Anundsjöån.
Behind Kubbe, the Norra Anundsjöån is dammed at Kubbe kraftverk, where the original river bed lies dry for most of the year over a length of four kilometers. Shortly before the Anundsjösjön , the Norra and Södra Anundsjöån flow together to form the Moälven.
Archaeological finds
At Agnsjön , west of Kubbe, during excavations of the State Historical Museum and Umeå University in the late 1950s and early 1960s, living spaces from the Neolithic (in Sweden up to 1800 BC) and the Bronze Age (1800 to 500 BC) were found .) and the Iron Age (500 BC to 1050 AD). Following the course of Norra Anundsjöån to the north, there is a trap system over a length of four kilometers , which shows that the area was settled early. In addition to the pitfalls, arrowheads and scrapers made of slate and quartzite , bones and bronze fragments were also found.
