The North East District (formerly North-East District ; German Northeast District ) is a district in Botswana . The largest city is Francistown , which however has its own administration ( City of Francistown ).
159,225 people live in the 5,120 square kilometer area, around 99,000 of them in Francistown (as of the 2011 census).
In the north and east the North East District borders on the province of South Matabeleland in Zimbabwe , and in the south and west on the Botswana Central District .
