Notre-Dame du Val des Nymphes
The Notre-Dame Catholic Chapel in La Garde-Adhémar , a French commune in the Drôme department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region , was built in the second half of the 12th century. The chapel has been a protected architectural monument ( Monument historique ) since 1889 .
location
That of the Mother of God consecrated chapel lies two kilometers east of La Garde-Adhémar on the D 572 in Val des Nymphes (dt. Valley of the Nymphs ) where already in Roman times a temple stood.
history
Notre-Dame was first mentioned in 1059 as the priory of the Benedictine abbey in Tournus . After the barrel vault had collapsed in the 1980s, the chapel has been extensively restored in recent years.
architecture
The west facade of the single-nave chapel consists of small-format quarry stone and is completely unadorned. The structure of the apse is particularly remarkable . Their arches in the lower part rest on strong pillars , above are slender columns with Corinthian capitals .
