Numéro deux is a French experimental film by Jean-Luc Godard and Anne-Marie Miéville from 1975. The film is about a working-class family who lives in a social housing complex in France. Both formally and in terms of content, the film addresses the film process, the product character of the film and the directors' work on the film. The film uses split screen , cross-fades and recordings of the editing and filming process for this.

In the first part of the film, Godard discusses the production of a film, its commodity character and the relationship between people and film machines, as well as the film as the boss and worker in film production.

In the second part of the film, which makes up around two thirds of the film, the family members report on their everyday life, especially on economic and sexual aspects.

Reviews

The film has a score of 100% at Rotten Tomatoes , which means that all of the critical reviews collected were positive. The film was shown at the Viennale in 1976 and 2007 as well as at the São Paulo International Film Festival 1980 and the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2010.
