OM Bidjanbek (officially Mahmoud Bidjanbeg ; * 1939 in Tehran ) is an Iranian sculptor who lives in Munich , with his own producer's gallery in which his work can be seen.

life and work

O [stād] Mahmoud Bidjanbek came to Munich in 1961 from Iran. From 1972 to 1979 he studied sculpture in connection with architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich as a master student with Georg Brenninger

Bidjanbeks former producer's gallery at Baaderstraße 17 (until 2012)

As one of the first Schwabing artists, he moved to the Gärtnerplatzviertel in 1974 and opened a producers' gallery at Baaderstraße 17 . At that time there was no market and hardly any exhibition opportunities for young artists. His gallery was the first opportunity for many young artists to present themselves to an audience. From 1979 to 1982 he was a full lecturer ( Ostād ) for applied and decorative arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Music & Architecture of the University of Tehran and a member of the Iranian National Committee of UNESCO .

His figurative works in bronze, stone and terracotta combine abstract and natural elements to create new, unfamiliar dimensions. People and their behavior are the focus of OM Bidjanbek's artistic work. The classical study of nature shaped his design language as well as his Persian origin. He brings abstract and natural elements together in his work in an unusual way. In his unique symbolistic, narrative style, he has created a variety of works.

He has lived and worked in Munich's Dreimühlenviertel since 2012 , where his gallery “Original von Bidjanbek” has been located at Dreimühlenstraße 4 ever since . He is a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists Munich and Upper Bavaria eV On the occasion of the 850th birthday of the city of Munich, he designed a “ birthday lion ” as a “birthday present” to the city. He donated the sales profit for the porcelain figurines and for the ten limited bronze sculptures to the REFUGIO advice and treatment center in Munich .

Mahmoud Bidjanbeg is a member of the SPD local association Isarvorstadt and for this member of the district committee 2 Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt , where he is active in the subcommittee for planning and building (UA PB). His wife is also for the SPD in the district committee.
