from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The OFC Champions League 2008/09 was the eighth edition of an oceanic championship competition for club teams in football and took place from November 1, 2008 to May 2, 2009 again with six clubs from five countries. The teams came from Fiji , New Zealand , Papua New Guinea , the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu . Waitakere United from New Zealand qualified for the tournament as defending champions. Four other teams qualified because of their placements in their domestic league, plus Hekari United FC from Papua New Guinea, which should originally have played a qualification. However, since the two rivals Tupapa FC from the Cook Islands and Nauti FC from Tuvalu withdrew their participation, Hekari United reached the group stage without a fight. The six clubs played the participants in the finals in two groups, each with two home and two away games.

Tournament winner Auckland City FC qualified for the 2009 FIFA Club World Cup , which was held in the UAE .
