The OFC Champions Cup 2006 was the fifth edition of an oceanic championship competition for club teams in football and took place from 10 to 21 May 2006 with eight clubs from seven countries in the North Harbor Stadium in Albany (North Shore City) New Zealand. The teams came from New Caledonia , New Zealand , Fiji , Papua New Guinea , the Solomon Islands , Tahiti and Vanuatu . For the first time there was no representative from Australia at the start, as Australia had joined the Asian Football Association AFC ; therefor two representatives from New Zealand. The teams qualified based on their placements in the national championship, with seven teams seeded for the final round. Another four teams had to play a qualifying round in Ba, Fiji, the winners of which qualified for the final round. The competition was played in a round-robin tournament with two groups of four teams and a subsequent knockout round . The two best in the group reached the semi-finals.
The qualifiers took place February 6-10 at Govind Park in Ba , Fiji. Everyone played against everyone in a simple round. The group winner qualified for the final round of the competition.
