Location in Zweibrücken

With about 1250 inhabitants (2013), Oberauerbach is the easternmost district of Zweibrücken and is located in the Auerbach valley.

geography

Oberauerbach is located at the confluence of the Bundenbach in the Auerbach , which is called Wiesbach further up the river.

history

Oberauerbach has grown together from two smaller settlements. Orlebach west of the Wiesbach is first mentioned in 1212 and was the seat of a noble family of the same name. In a witness hearing in 1382, the elders of the two churches at Niederauerbach ( Ůrbaco inferiore ) and at Contwig ( Cuntwich ) explain the tithe rights in Oberauerbach ( in alto Ůrbaco ) and in Orlebach ( Ůrlebach ). At first it belonged partly to the Counts of Zweibrücken and partly to the Lords of Orlebach, then to the Lords of Helmstatt and other nobles, and in 1577 it was purchased for 1025 fl in the Principality of Pfalz-Zweibrücken , to which the place belonged until the end of the 18th century .

After 1792 French revolutionary troops occupied the region and annexed it after the Peace of Campo Formio (1797) . From 1798 to 1814 the village belonged to the French department of Donnersberg and was assigned to the canton of Zweibrücken . Due to the agreements reached at the Congress of Vienna (1815) and an exchange contract with Austria , the region became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816 . From 1818, the municipality of Oberauerbach was part of the Zweibrücken regional commissioner in the Bavarian Rhine district , later to the Zweibrücken district office, from which the Zweibrücken district emerged in 1938 . After the Second World War , Oberauerbach came to the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

On April 22nd, 1972, Oberauerbach was incorporated into the city of Zweibrücken with 1,264 inhabitants.
