The Army Group H was a major unit of the Army of the Wehrmacht during the Second World War . She was high command of changing armies and numerous special troops. From April 1945, their commander was called Oberbefehlshaber Nordwest .
history
Army Group H was set up in the Netherlands on November 11, 1944 . The staff of the Kleffel Army Division and parts of the Serbia Army Division were merged. It was in the areas of today's Netherlands and in today's North Rhine-Westphalia , u. a. up to the cities of Mönchengladbach and Duisburg , active.
On April 7, 1945 General Field Marshal Ernst Busch took over command, after which Army Group H was apparently renamed Army Group Northwest . Ernst Busch's headquarters were at the beginning of May 1945 near Flensburg in Kollerup , about 10 kilometers away from Flensburg - Mürwik , where the last Reich government under Karl Dönitz had settled. The history of the Army Group ended with the surrender of German troops in the Netherlands, Northwest Germany and Denmark , which General Admiral Hans-Georg von Friedeburg signed on behalf of Dönitz on May 4, 1945 in the Lüneburg Heath .
