Upper Isarau
The Obere Isarau is a green area on the Isar in the north of Munich . A part of the Munich city district 12 Schwabing-Freimann is named after this green area .

The Obere Isarau is located in the east of the Freimann district of Munich between the Freisinger Landstrasse and the Isar . It continues the Hirschau, the northern part of the English Garden, to the north and merges at the city limits into the Middle Isarau , which lies in the area of the neighboring city of Garching .
At the southern end of the Upper Isarau are the Kulturheim and Floriansmühle quarters and the premises of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation . The meadow settlement extends from the Freisinger Landstrasse into the Isarau. Federal motorway 99 crosses the Obere Isarau just north of the Auensiedlung .
The district of Obere Isarau extends further west to the federal motorway 9 and thus also includes the center of Freimann, the Großlappen sewage treatment plant and the Fröttmaninger Berg . The southern border of the city district is the Föhringer Ring .

In contrast to the English Garden with its large meadows, the upper Isarau has a predominance of trees in the form of a light alluvial forest .
The two brooks that emerge from the English Garden, the Garching Mühlbach and the Schwabing Altbach , run parallel to the Isar through the Obere Isarau and flow further into the middle Isarau at the city limits. Where the emergency outlet canal and the sewage canal of the Großlappen sewage treatment plant cross the Obere Isarau, the Garching Mühlbach flows over them and the Schwabing Altbach flows under them. At this point, the Schleissheim Canal branches off from the Garching Mühlbach and runs parallel to the Freising Landstrasse on the west side of the Upper Isarau.
In the Upper Isarau lies the Freimanner Brenne biotope, a poor meadow population with rare flora and an important population of different species of reptiles.
Due to the greater distance from the city center, the Obere Isarau is less used by pedestrians than the English Garden. But it is very popular with cyclists. The only connection to the other side of the Isar in the area of the Upper Isarau is the Isarsteg Unterföhring , which leads to the Poschinger Weiher opposite .
