The Obermoser winery is a wine-growing farm in St. Magdalena , a wine village on the outskirts of the wine town of Bozen in South Tyrol . The winery is a member of the Association of Independent Winegrowers in South Tyrol ; As producer bottlings, it mainly produces the red wines St. Magdalener and Lagrein , supplemented by the white wine from the Sauvignon Blanc variety , on a vineyard area of almost 4 hectares, spread over 4 individual layers.

history

In 1600 the name (Ober-) Moser in St. Magdalena is mentioned in church accounts with “Davit Rigler zum Moser” , in 1618 a “Peter Fundnaster bei Obermoser” appears for the first time , in 1684 “Peter Ebmacher Obermoser” . In 1777 the estate paid interest to the Bolzano Heiliggeistpital . Since then there have been several mentions and different owners. In 1890 the "Obermoser-Gütl" was bought by Christian J. Rottensteiner and thus came into the possession of the family who run it today. Both the building and the vineyards that belonged to it were initially extremely modest. From 1900 the building served u. a. High school teacher and etymologist Georg Kötting from Kreuznach as a residential home. In 1907, Franz JC Rottensteiner, Christian's son, bought part of the property, which he inherited from his father in 1912. In 1939, Franz JM (Junior) Rottensteiner inherited the farm that had grown around Grafenleiten and other estates and was heavily indebted until the end of the Second World War. His son Heinrich F. Rottensteiner was transferred to the farm in 1977 and expanded quality and bottling and acquired other goods in Kaltern . Heinrich and his son Thomas Rottensteiner have been running the wine farm together since 1997. In the years 2008 to 2010 the Weinhof was fundamentally rebuilt and in 2012 passed to Thomas Rottensteiner in succession.

Locations

Obermoser winery (left) 2005
  • The original estate is south-facing around the Obermoser wine farm, previously called "Gütl", and is still mainly reserved for the St. Magdalener . The soils are typically moraine as in the zone.
  • By leasing and later buying from the Bolzano Counts of Toggenburg , the southwest facing "Grafenleiten" was added, which together with the southeastern "Rondell" location of the Glöggl-Hof forms the small St. Magdalener moraine hill. Much of this location has been vinified as a pure Lagrein Riserva "Grafenleiten" since 1990. The eastern approach of the hill is above average sandy and delicate. The southernmost location is still planted with old Vernatsch vines and is cellared as a selection from St. Magdalener Classico "Nobilis".
  • An inheritance opened up the south-facing location on the "Hörtenberg" on the border with the municipality of Ritten , which is planted with Vernatsch in the lower part and Sauvignon Blanc in the upper part . In the last few decades, small pieces of vineyards were added to this location.

These three locations are all in the wine village or in the DOC sub-zone St. Magdalena and under the supervision of the St. Magdalena volunteer protection consortium .

  • In the mid-1990s, a south-east facing hillside location in the "plaster wall" sub-zone in Kaltern am See was acquired. This is planted with Lagrein and Sauvignon Blanc .
