Octavio Piccolomini (also Ottavio Enea Giuseppe Piccolomini ; Czech Octavian II, kníže Piccolomini ; born February 17, 1698 - † January 25, 1757 in Königgrätz , Königgrätzer Kreis ) was Duke of Amalfi , imperial general , imperial prince and landlord of the East Bohemian rule of Nachod .

Life

Octavio came from the Italian noble family of the Piccolomini- Pieri. His parents were Lorenzo Piccolomini and Anna Viktoria Ludmila Kolowrat -Liebsteinsky († 1738). After his father's death in 1712, the first-born son Giovanni Venceslao Piccolomini d'Aragona ( Jan Václav, kníže Piccolomini ) inherited his property. Because of a mental illness, he was under the guardianship of his mother until 1732. In 1732 the Königgrätzer state government appointed Giovanni's younger brother Octavio to be his guardian and administrator of the Nachod rule. After Giovanni's death in 1742, Octavio inherited his possessions.

Octavio turned to the military at a young age. At the age of 17 he fought in the ranks of Prince Eugene in the Venetian-Austrian Turkish War , where he was wounded. He was then appointed Rittmeister , Field Sergeant General in 1738 and Lieutenant Field Marshal in 1744 . In 1754 he received the rank of Feldzeugmeister .

In 1745 Octavio arranged for the damage suffered on the Nachod estate in the First Silesian War to be repaired. The Náchod Castle was extensively renovated and the Spanish Hall was repainted by Felix Anton Scheffler .

In the Second Silesian War Octavio rose to lieutenant general and was also the commanding general in Moravia and Austrian Silesia . At the beginning of the Seven Years' War he fought with his army in Eastern Bohemia. On January 25, 1757 he died of a stroke in Königgrätz.

Ottavio was not married and left no descendants. With him the branch of the Piccolomini-Pieri family died out. In possession of the Majorate Náchod, Duke Giovanni Pompeo Piccolomini ( Jan Pompejus Piccolomini ) from the Piccolomini-Todeschini family branch followed him .
