Odilo Klasen

Odilo Klasen (* 1959 in Moers on the Lower Rhine) is a German church musician , organist and composer .

Life

Klasen is regional cantor (catholic) for Düsseldorf with the deaneries D- Benrath , D-Süd, D-Nord, D-Mitte / Heerdt and D-Ost as well as pastoral musician at the churches of St. Franziskus Xaverius (organ Klais 1970/2000, IV / P 60 Reg.), To the Holy Cross and St. Josef (Klais 1930–1975, IV / P, 64 Reg.). His teachers were the Straube and Ramin students Konrad Voppel (Duisburg), Viktor Lukas and Rudolf Ewerhart (Cologne) and Franz Lehrndorfer (Munich), with whom he took his master's degree in organ. Courses with Daniel Roth and Harald Vogel expanded the spectrum to include French organ music and the interpretation of the northern German repertoire. Organ concerts took him to various cathedrals in Germany and the European surrounding area, and in 1990 he was selected to take part in the organ competition in Chartres .

He supervises and founded several concert series: The annual cycle "Winter Organ Concerts" in the churches of Düsseldorf , "Bach inspires " ( maxhaus Düsseldorf), "Düsseldorfer Nachtmusiken", "Die Rote Zwanziger" (2006) (in the Tonhalle Düsseldorf and other churches and buildings from the twenties).

Early music occupied him in Vienna and Austria : he was a harpsichordist and répétiteur with the Vienna Bach Soloists and conducted operas at festivals in the Danube region.

In 2007, Klasen received a composition grant from the city of Düsseldorf for the oratorio psalm XXX “I never waver in world time” (German text by Martin Buber ).

He received his doctorate in 2014 with the thesis “ Oskar Gottlieb Blarr . Composer and Cantor in Düsseldorf after 1960 ”.
