Oksoritod (also Western Islands ) is the name of one of five island regions of the Chuuk state of the Federated States of Micronesia . The islands and atolls are part of the Carolines archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean . From the Chuuk Atoll , they extend north and west. The municipalities of the island region are statistically divided into the sub-regions Halls (consisting of the Hall Islands and Fayu ), Namonuito (an atoll) and Pattiw (consisting of the atolls or islands of Houk or Pulusuk, Puluwat and Pulap ). Occasionally, the (geographically more appropriate) term Western Islands is used for the Pattiw sub-region , which makes this term ambiguous.
The island region has an aggregate land area of 15.141 km² (according to other sources 15.05 km²). At the 2000 census, 6,219 people lived on the atolls.
