description

Oliver's lime tree is a deciduous tree that can reach heights of 6 to 26 meters with a trunk diameter of about 60 centimeters. In young trees, the treetop is loose, with age it is arched high. The bark is dark gray and smooth and interspersed with a few stripes of brown hair. The bark of young twigs is reddish brown, thick and hairless. The egg-shaped buds are red to green, smooth to hairy. The stalked leaves are simple. The smooth or rarely hairy petiole is 1.5 to about 6 inches long. The leaf blade is flat and light fresh green on top; the underside appears silvery white due to the felted hair. The obliquely heart-shaped leaf blade is 6 to 14 by 4.5 to 10 centimeters in size. The leaf margin is serrated with long tips. There are stipules present.

The flowering period is from June to August. There are 3 to 20 flowers together in a pendulous umbellate inflorescence . The inflorescence is at most as long as the bract , which is fused with the inflorescence stem over two-fifths of its length. It is 5 to 8 inches long and 1 to 2.5 inches wide, light green on the top and whitish on the underside. The hermaphrodite, radially symmetrical flowers are five-fold. The five hairy sepals are 5 to 6 millimeters in size. The five smooth petals are 6 to 7 millimeters in size. A total of 45 stamens are combined in five bundles . The staminodes are smooth. The ovary is hairy. The stylus is smooth.

The more or less spherical fruits have a diameter of about 7 to 10 millimeters; they are hairy and thick-skinned. The seeds ripen in August to September.
