history
The place Olschiny was first mentioned in 1386 when it was handed over to the aristocratic Melsztyński family, based in Melsztyn , with the neighboring Ołpiny, Szerzyny and Święcany . The name, plural of the singular form olszyna , is derived from topographical origin from [nadrzeczna] olszyna [górska] ( Alnetum incanae - gray alder floodplain forest).
Politically and administratively, the village belonged to the Kingdom of Poland (from 1569 the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania ), Krakow Voivodeship , Biecz District . Around 1600 it had over 200 inhabitants.
During the first partition of Poland in 1772, Olszyny became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804). From 1855 Olszyny belonged to the Jasło District .
In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Olszyny came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . During the night between August 16 and 17, 1944, the American Liberator aircraft was shot down by Germans there. The 6 victims were immortalized by the 1969 memorial.
From 1975 to 1998 Olszyny was part of the Tarnów Voivodeship .
