At the XI. At the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin , a modern pentathlon competition was held.

42 participants from 16 countries took part, 39 of which made it into the ranking. Olympic champion was the German Gotthard Handrick . Silver went to Charles Leonard from the United States and the bronze to the Italian Silvano Abbà .
