Madagascar took part in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich with a delegation of eleven athletes (all men). It was Madagascar's third participation in the Summer Olympics. The athlete Jean-Aimé Randrianalijaona was chosento be the flag bearer at the opening ceremony.
