The mountain bike race of the men at the 2004 Olympics in Athens took place on 27 August at 11:00.
After a starting lap, 5 laps had to be completed on the Parnitha Olympic Mountain Bike Venue . The race was 31.3 km in total. The favorite was the Norwegian Gunn-Rita Dahle , who lived up to her role and dominated the race. The reigning world champion Sabine Spitz from Germany was able to prevail against Alison Sydor in the end and ended up in third place behind the Canadian Marie-Hélène Prémont . The winner of the last two Olympic Games Paola Pezzo could not finish the race.
