Career

youth

In his youth he played in the school team of the Shimizu Municipal Commercial High School (Japanese 清水 市立 商業 高等学校 , Shimizu-shiritsu shōgyō kōtō gakkō ; English Shimizu Commercial High School ), which has a great football tradition and a close relationship with Shimizu S- Pulse features.

Urawa Red Diamonds and Feyenoord

The offensive midfielder then played in his first professional station with the Urawa Red Diamonds when he played his first World Cup tournament at the 1998 World Cup in France as an 18-year-old. That year he was named J. League Best Young Player . In 1999 he won the silver medal at the U-20 World Cup as captain of the Japanese junior team . In 2001 , he moved to Feyenoord Rotterdam in the Netherlands for 12.5 million euros , the traditional club's most expensive transfer to date. Rotterdam won the UEFA Cup with Ono in 2002 . In February 2006 he returned to the Red Diamonds. His career highlight so far has been participating in the 2002 World Cup in his own country. After this World Cup he was elected Asia's Footballer of the Year 2002 , due to injury problems he only played against Australia at his third World Cup finals in 2006 , he resigned from the national team after the tournament.

VfL Bochum and Shimizu S-Pulse

In January 2008 he moved to Bundesliga club VfL Bochum, where he celebrated his first Bundesliga appearance in VfL's first away win at Werder Bremen on February 3, 2008.
