Route

The trunk road was opened in August 1937. The highway used to start on Main Street in the center of North Bay. In 1998, the city was responsible for the most westerly 1.9 km, so that the current western beginning of the road is a junction from Highway 11 and Highway 17 in an east-northeast direction. The highway runs through the northeastern suburbs of North Bay along the north shore of Trout Lake . After 18.5 km the trunk road passes the village of Redbridge , after another 5.5 km Balsam Creek . The road then gradually turns north. Ontario Highway 533 branches off to the southeast at km 40 . This leads past the Alexander Lake Forest Provincial Park to Mattawa . A few meters later, Highway 63 crosses the Little Jocko River , and after another 8 km the Jocko River . Both rivers are located in Jocko Rivers Provincial Park . Highway 63 now turns northeast. At road km 53, the highway passes the settlement of Eldee and shortly thereafter reaches the west bank of the Ottawa River . The highway runs about 10 km north along the west bank of the Ottawa River. It passes the Thorne settlement and reaches the two dams that dam the Ottawa River to Lake Timiskaming . The highway runs over this. On the eastern side of the river, Highway 63 continues with Route 101 .
