The Highway 101 or King's Highway 101 is a highway that extends from Lake Superior on Timmins to the provincial border of Quebec through the north of the Canadian province of Ontario draws.

Route

The highway begins on Highway 17 at Wawa City Airport on the north shore of Lake Superior . It initially leads north past the city of Wawa and in a northeastern direction along the southeastern shore of Wawa Lake . On his way he crosses the vast boreal coniferous forests of the Canadian Shield . After 13.6 miles, Highway 547 branches north to the Hawk Junction settlement . The road now heads east. East of The Shoals Provincial Park it crosses the Laurentine watershed . She later crosses the border from the Algoma District to the Sudbury District . Shortly before Chapleau , Highway 129, coming from the south, meets Highway 101. After 7.6 km, Highway 129 branches off to Chapleau in the north. Highway 101 passes Chapleau Airport and continues east towards Timmins . At kilometer 232 the highway passes the village of Foleyet . At 310 km, Highway 144 coming from Greater Sudbury meets the trunk road. This reaches the city of Timmins after a further 24 km. There the Highway 655 branches off to the north. At Matheson , at road kilometer 403, Highway 101 crosses Highway 11, which is part of the road system of the Trans-Canada Highway . After another 50 km, Highway 672 branches off to the south. Highway 101 ends at the provincial border with Québec , 9.5 km south of Lake Abitibi . The Route 388 forms the eastern continuation of the highway.

history

The trunk road has existed under its current name since 1944. It originally connected Timmins to Highway 11. In the 1950s and 1960s, the road was extended east to the provincial border of Québec and west to the newly built Highway 17 to Lake Superior .
