The Highway 400 in the Canadian province of Ontario leads from the Georgian Bay , a bay of Lake Huron to Toronto . The route has a length of 226 km.

Routing

Highway 400 is the continuation of Highway 69 . It leads in a southerly direction and is developed as a freeway along the entire route. The start of the highway is north of Nobel, a suburb of McDougall . It leads as a bypass around Parry Sound and thus leaves the coastal region around Lake Huron. The highway is located here in the southern part of the Canadian shield and crosses the landscape of lakes. At Severn he leaves the Canadian Shield and again encounters a branch of Lake Huron. There then Ontario Highway 12 branches off in an easterly direction, until this intersection Highway 400 was part of the Trans-Canada Highway system. The highway now traverses the landscape known as the Golden Horseshoe and meets the metropolitan area around Toronto. It runs through Barrie and continues south. In Vaughan, he crosses Highway 407 , the only toll highway in Ontario along its entire length. This means that the highway is also in the greater Toronto area. It meets Highway 401 there and then ends. The continuation of the highway through inner-city streets leads to the center of the city.

expansion

In the medium term, it is planned to extend the highway further north and thus replace Highway 69. In addition, some sections of Highway 69 south of Sudbury have already been developed as a freeway or are currently being expanded.
