The Route 16 in New Brunswick , Canada , is part of the Trans-Canada Highway system. Furthermore, as a so-called core route , it is part of the Canadian National Highway System . The highway begins at Aulac on Route 2 , it runs along the eastern provincial border with Nova Scotia and ends in the middle of the Confederation Bridge on the border with Prince Edward Island .
Route
Approx. 2 km before Route 2 ends at the Nova Scotia border, Route 16 branches off from it in a northerly direction. This runs parallel to the provincial border through several smaller towns. At Baie Verte , the route reaches the Atlantic coast on the bay of the same name. The route now runs along the coast, in Port Elgin branches off Route 15 to Moncton in a westerly direction . At Bayfield , the highway runs through the Cape Jouriman National Wildlife Area, which is upstream of the Confederation Bridge. The highway now leads to the toll bridge, which spans the Northumberland road for almost 13 km . The route ends at the provincial border and continues as Prince Edward Island Route 1 .
