The Manitoba Highway 100 is part of a ring road around the capital of Manitoba Winnipeg . The ring road is known as the Perimeter Highway, this section of the route dates from the 1950s and 1960s.

The southern part of the Perimeter Highway is separated from the northern part at the intersection with Highway 1 . The south route around Winnipeg is approximately 8 km shorter than the corresponding north bypass, Manitoba Highway 101 . It is to be modernized in the coming years, the road is to be upgraded to four lanes free of intersections with an option for six lanes.
