The King's Highway 417 is part of the so-called 400 series in the Canadian province of Ontario . It is located in the eastern part of the province and has a length of around 181 km. It is developed as a freeway over the entire length of the route and is part of the Trans-Canada Highway .

Route description

At the junction of Highway 416 and 417

The freeway begins at Arnprior as a continuation of Highway 17 . This originally ran further east, but was renamed as a freeway to Highway 417 as part of the expansion. The highway runs southeast until it meets Highway 7 . From there, the highway runs to the northeast and is nicknamed the Queensway , 14 km north of this junction, Highway 416 , which extends to Kingston and Toronto , meets Highway 417. It now leads into the center of Ottawa , the Canadian capital. The route crosses the city center parallel to the Ottawa River and thus forms the main development route through the city. In order to meet this requirement, the highway will be expanded to include up to 8 lanes. East of the city, the highway runs east through the parishes of The Nation , North Stormont, and North Glengarry . In North Stormond, Highway 138 , which comes from Cornwall, joins Highway 417 and North Glengarry Highway 34 from Lancaster . The route meets the Ottawa River at East Hawkesbury , ends at the border with Québec, and continues there as Autoroute 40 .

Ottawa

Ottawa is the capital of Canada. The metropolitan area with a good 1.1 million inhabitants is the fourth largest in Canada. The city was founded in 1827, then called Bytown. With the entry into force of the constitutional law of 1867 , Ottawa became the federal capital. In downtown Ottawa, Parliament Hill is also one of the city's main attractions. However, being the capital city also offers a multitude of cultural opportunities, including galleries and museums, but also parades and festivals.
