The Orb (front) joins the Kinzig |
The Orb is an approximately eleven kilometer long left tributary of the Kinzig in the Main-Kinzig district in the Hessian Spessart . He is the namesake of the spa town of Bad Orb .
geography
Orb source
The Orb rises southeast of Bad Orb , directly on the connecting road between the spa town and the Jossgrund municipality , in the Orbquelle nature reserve near Bad Orb . In the source area there are six springs, the Orbquelle , the Stierruhquelle , the Mittelquelle , the Mackenborn , the Grüneborn and the Saustallquelle . The last one got its name because it was the only place where the animals could be watered. The Orbquelle has been taken for the water supply in the Orb valley.
course
After 3.5 km the river reaches the spa gardens in Bad Orb. In the city center it meets its largest tributary, the hazel . Another tributary is the Leimbach .
North of the former Untertor in the Autal nature reserve near Bad Orb , the Orb is also known as "Aubach" in popular tourism. An inn that goes back to a concession from 1875 was originally the "Aumühle". The Bad Orber small train "Emma" runs through a section of the lower Orbe valley.
At the junction Wächtersbach of the federal highway 66 , the Orb flows into the Kinzig .

history
The Orb was not always a Hessian river. After the reorganization of the borders in this area, as a result of the Congress of Vienna , it flowed on Bavarian soil from 1814 to 1868. The Orb (then Orb Bach) ran from its source to its mouth in the territory of the Kingdom of Bavaria ( Gemünden am Main district office ). After the military defeat in the German War , Bavaria had to surrender the administrative area of the old Orb district court to Hessen-Nassau .
