The Orenberg near Willingen in the Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is 702  m above sea level. NHN high elevation in the Upland , the northeastern foothills of the Rothaargebirge .

The Orenberg is located in the northwest of North Hesse in the Diemelsee Nature Park, directly east-southeast of the Willingen core town . As a south-southeast neighbor of the Iberg ( 720.5  m ), it rises east of the Itter valley and west of its tributary Aarbach with the Eideler Berg on the other side of the brook , the approximately 700  m high southern foothills of the Lüerberg ( 713  m ).

Immediately southwest of the partially wooded mountain is the Willinger Viadukt ("The Viaduct", symbol of Willingen), built between 1914 and 1917 , on which the Uplandbahn crosses the Itter and the B 251 .

Natural allocation

The Orenberg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33) in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Upland (333.9) to the natural area Inneres Upland (333.90).

Orenbergschanzen

At the north-west foot of the Orenberg above the Ittertal on the outskirts of Willingen are the Orenbergschanzen (categories K 10, K 35 and K 45), the first of which was built in 1937 and which are especially used by young jumpers as training hills; they are also used as plastic covered hills .

About 2 km south of the Mühlenkopf near the Willingen district of Stryck is the Mühlenkopfschanze , which is mainly used for international competitions.
