Location of place in Bavaria

Place is a village in the city of Freyung in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau , a formerly independent municipality and a former district capital.

history

The place and the nearby Wolfstein Castle were built by the Passau bishop Wolfger von Erla around 1200. Previously, the surrounding country was in 1193 by Emperor Heinrich VI. ceded to the Passau bishops. In 1301 a place was first mentioned as Purchstol zu Wolferstein and a forest , later Freyung. The castle itself served as a defense system, administrative seat and episcopal hunting lodge. When the Principality of Passau was dissolved in 1803 , Ort and Wolfstein were initially annexed to Austria ; three years later, after the Peace of Pressburg , the area became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria . In 1806 the Bavarian regional court district Wolfstein was established with seat at Wolfstein Castle and with the municipal dictates of 1808/1818 the rural community Ort was established. After Mallersdorf was elevated to a market in 1952, Ort remained with Wolfstein Castle, the only district capital in Bavaria that was neither a town nor a market .

On April 1, 1954, the municipality of Ort with the main town and the municipal parts of Bannholz , Geyersberg , Grillaberg , Königsfeld , Mittermühle , Oberndorf , Ortmühle , Perlesöd , Pittersberg , Promau , Schönbrunn , Solla , Winkelbrunn and Wolfstein was incorporated into Freyung. Since the seat of the district office of the district Wolfstein was located in Ort , Freyung became the new district town of this district and from the municipal reform also decisive for the name of the new district ( Freyung , then because of the closed old district Grafenau Freyung-Grafenau ).

traffic

The junction of the federal highway 12 with the St 2132 at Ort has been an official accident hotspot since 2006 and has been defused by a new traffic route.
