Oskil ( Ukrainian Оскіл ; Russian Оскол Oskol ) is a village in the southeast of the Ukrainian Oblast of Kharkiv with about 3,200 inhabitants (2001).

Since October 2017 Oskil is the administrative center of the rural community Oskil in eastern Rajon Isjum to which even the villages Kapytoliwka , Komariwka ( Комарівка ) Studenok ( Студенок ) Dibrova ( Діброва ) Bukyne ( Букине ) Mykolaivs'ka ( Миколаївка ) Passika ( Пасіка ) and Jaremiwka ( Яремівка ) belong. Previously, Oskil was the administrative center of the 127.07 km² district council of the same name, to which the village of Bukyne ( ), which had about 10 residents and a train station on the Kharkiv – Horlivka railway , belonged.

Geographical location

The village is located at the mouth of the 21 km long Bakhtyn ( Бахтин ) in the Oskil and on the dam of the Oskilsk reservoir 14 km southeast of the district center of Isjum and 137 km southeast of the Oblast center Kharkiv .

history

Today's Oskil was founded in 1600 by decree of Tsar Boris Godunow as a border fortress Tsarw- Boryssow ( Царёв-Борисов ) in Sloboda-Ukraine .

In 1919 the village was renamed Tscherwonyj Oskil (Ukrainian Червоний Оскіл ) and in 2016 it was given the name Oskil in the course of decommunization in Ukraine .
