Osman Göktan (* 1933 in Trabzon ) is a former Turkish football player and official. Due to his long activity for Fenerbahçe Istanbul , he is associated with this club. During the presidency of Fikret Arıcan from 1985 to 1987 he was a member of the Fenerbahçe club and also sat on the board for some time (Turkish: Yüksek Divan Kurulu).

Player career

Childhood and youth

Göktan was born in the Black Sea city of Trabzon and lived here until he was 13 years old. His father made a living importing and selling shoes and Göktan was the youngest of five children. In Trabzon he lived on the same street as Nazmi Bilge , who, like Göktan, was to become a professional footballer and also make it to the national team. For a long time he played street football with Bilge in a team. After Göktan's mother died in 1950, he went to see his older brother in Istanbul to cheer him up during the summer vacation . He had settled here with his family. At the end of the school holidays, Göktan wanted to return to Trabzon and was persuaded by his brother to live with him in Istanbul from now on. From then on, Göktan lived with his brother in the Kasımpaşa district of Istanbul . Here he finished high school and then attended the Ataturk High School ( Beyoğlu Ataturk Lisesi in Turkish ) located in the Beyoğlu district . In addition to his school career, he also played for the school team and took part in the Turkish football championship of high schools with them. In the final, his team prevailed against the school team of the Kuleli Askeri Lisesi in the famous Dolmabahçe Stadı and became Turkish football champion of the grammar schools. In his team played u. a. also Günay Kayarlar . He would later make it to a professional football player at Galatasaray Istanbul . In addition to his work, he played for the amateur team Istanbul Tünelspor .

society

In his last year of high school, which corresponded to the 1954/55 season, Göktan began to play for Kasımpaşa Istanbul , the club in his neighborhood Kasımpaşa. Necdet Çoruh and Seracettin Kırklar were among his teammates at the time . With both he would later play together again at Fenerbahçe Istanbul . At Kasımpaşa Istanbul he was hardly used due to his young age. This circumstance ensured that Göktan was looking for a new club for the coming season.

After Göktan had successfully passed the Abitur in the summer of 1955, he began to study economics at the University of Istanbul . At the same time as he started his studies, he switched to the Istanbul club Emniyet SK , the former company sports club of the Istanbul police . At the time of his move to Emniyet, this club played in the İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi (German: Istanbul Professional League ). At that time there was no international professional league in Turkey. Instead, regional leagues existed in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir , of which the Istanbul professional league was considered the most prestigious. The three big Istanbul clubs Galatasaray , Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş played in this league . In this environment, Göktan made his professional debut on December 3, 1955 in the league game against İstanbulspor . Despite his young age, he quickly gained a regular place and completed eleven of 18 possible league games by the end of the season. With his club he played in addition to the 1955/56 season two more seasons in the Istanbul professional league and finished with this after those three seasons in the last place in the table. After his club benefited the first two of those seasons of the fact that the league was played without descent, she had to because of the last table space the season 1957/58 in the summer of 1958 in the second İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi (dt .: 2. Istanbul's professional league ) to relegate to the 2nd division of the Istanbul league system.

With the relegation of Emniyet in the summer of 1958, Göktan got from Beyoğluspor's coach , Bülent Eken , the offer to take part in a trip to Denmark of his team and to play for his club during this trip. Göktan agreed and took part in the Denmark trip with Beyoğluspor. After this trip he got an offer from Eken to play for his team. Göktan declined this offer with thanks on the grounds that he was tired of playing for smaller teams and therefore usually gave up as a loser from the field. At that time he received a message from the sports doctor Reşat Dermanver to visit him in his practice. Dermanver, who had his practice in Beyoğlu, also worked as a team doctor for Fenerbahçe Istanbul , but also looked after athletes from other clubs in his practice. In this meeting Dermanver Göktan announced that the people in charge of Fenerbahçe wanted to sign him and were waiting for him in the club house. So Göktan moved to Fenerbahçe before the 1958/59 season . At this club he ran in eight of a possible 18 league games of his team in his first season. With his club, he finished the season as the Istanbul champion and secured the last championship of the Istanbul professional league. During this season, the league championship was decided by two finals. In the first game of this final, Göktan's team lost 1-0 to their arch rivals. The goal was scored by Metin Oktay, the most successful striker in Turkish football at the time. Before the second leg, Göktan, who had always been a right full-back at Fenerbahçe, suggested to the libero and team captain Naci Erdem that this time he play in the position of the libero against Oktay. Erdem, who, according to Göktan's statements, always had a hard time against his direct opponent Oktay, agreed. Göktan played successfully against Oktay in the second leg, his team clearly won 4-0 and secured the championship. From the spring of 1959 Göktan took part with Fenerbahçe in the newly founded and nationwide Millî Lig (today's Süper Lig). This league was founded in the spring of 1959 as the first nationwide national league in Turkey and replaced the regional leagues in the larger metropolitan areas, such as B. the İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi, as the highest and only Turkish league. The first season of the Millî Lig was played from February 1959 to June 1959 and ended with a win for Fenerbahçe Istanbul. Göktan played almost all of his team's games over the full length of the game and became the first Turkish soccer champion with his team . In the second season the title defense of the championship failed. Instead, the team won the Cemal Gürsel Cup . In the third season he and his team were again Turkish champions. Göktan remained the following two seasons with his club without a title win. In the season 1963/64 Göktan lost his regular place, but he and his team became Turkish champions for the third time. Göktan, who had meanwhile turned from a regular player to a supplementary player, was able to win the Turkish championship again with his team in the 1964/65 season . As a result, his team managed to defend its title in the championship, the first in the club's history. After the new title defense in the championship was missed in the 1965/66 season , the club management decided to carry out a squad revision. Göktan, who was only used in seven league games this season, took this revision as an opportunity and ended his career.

In September 1967 he said goodbye to the football stage in the Balkan Cup encounter against the Albanian representative FK Partizani Tirana .

National team

Göktan began his national team career in July 1959 with a commitment for the Turkish B national team, the then second selection of the Turkish national team .

In June 1, 1961, the national coach Puppo Sandro was nominated for the first time for the squad of the Turkish national team in the qualifying match of the 1962 World Cup against the Norwegian national team and completed his first international match in this encounter.

Overall, he was used in two B and four A internationals.

Life after football career and career as an official

Göktan turned down coach offers for family reasons after his career. His children attended various high schools in Istanbul and Göktan would have had to leave his family because of his coaching career to look after clubs in Anatolia . Instead, he started working as a film distributor after his career. He later started working in Kasımpaşa as the vice president of an electronics company.

From 1985 to 1987 Göktan was active as an official of Fenerbahçes during the presidency of Fikret Arıcan . Göktan was also active on the board of Fenerbahçes (Turkish: Yüksek Divan Kurulu) for a while.
