history

View of Ottenschlag

Ottenschlag was first mentioned in a document in 1285. The Ottenschlag complex and the Ui dialect (northern Bavarian) spoken until 1945 with its special Bavarian passwords indicate a settlement by Bavarian German tribes from the Upper Palatinate region, as they did after 1050, but especially in 12/13. Century took place. Because of the low community income, the residents had to make a special effort to maintain public offices within the village, such as the night watchman or the bell ringer. The village always belonged to the Neuhaus rule . The registers have been kept at Neuhaus since 1705. The inhabitants of Ottenschlag lived from forestry, livestock and agriculture. In addition to agriculture, there were also small businesses, a dairy cooperative and a brick factory.

After the First World War , 1914–1918, Czechoslovakia claimed the German-speaking areas of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia, which had been German Austria since the end of 1918 . The Treaty of St. Germain awarded the disputed territories to Czechoslovakia against the will of the German population there. Ottenschlag, 72% of the residents of which belonged to the German language group in 1910, fell to the new state. Measures followed such as land reform and the language regulation. After the Munich Agreement , Ottenschlag became part of the German Reichsgau Niederdonau on October 1, 1938 .

During the Second World War , the place suffered 30 victims. After its end, the victorious powers complied with the request of the ČSR government Beneš and reassigned the territories transferred to Germany in the Munich Agreement to Czechoslovakia . On May 30, 1945, Ottenschlag was occupied by non-local militant Czechs, systematically and at the same time as the surrounding towns. They took some hostages and drove the German residents across the border into Austria. One woman died as a result of abuse and one man was shot. The property of the German local residents was confiscated by the Beneš decree 108 and the Catholic Church was expropriated during the communist era .

In 2001 the village consisted of 145 houses in which 1191 people lived.

Local division

Otín consists of the basic settlement units Jitka and Otín.

The district forms a cadastral district.

Seal and coat of arms

In 1654 Ottenschlag received a community seal . It showed how numerous other villages in the area all received a seal from Count Slawata, an upright bear holding a shield in its front paws. On the shield was a helmet decorated with eagle wings and above it a wreath of flowers.
