Historical association for Upper Palatinate and Regensburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Historical Association for Upper Palatinate and Regensburg (formerly also the Historical Association of Upper Palatinate and Regensburg ) deals with researching the history of the Upper Palatinate and the city of Regensburg and with the dissemination of historical knowledge about this region. It was founded in Regensburg on November 20, 1830 and has been publishing a scientific journal since 1831 ( negotiations of the Historical Association for the Rain District until 1838 , since then negotiations of the Historical Association for Upper Palatinate and Regensburg (short: VHVO), 150 volumes published until 2010) .

founding

Since the beginning of the 19th century, with the Romantic era, an increasing interest in one's own past and home developed. King Ludwig I of Bavaria also recognized the value of history for the education of the population and in 1827 demanded the preservation of the historical monuments of Bavaria and a stronger focus on its own history.
In accordance with this suggestion, the Historical Association of the Regenkreis was founded in Regensburg on November 20, 1830, initially with 171 members. The first chairman was the Regensburg diplomat and historian Christian Gottlieb Gumpelzhaimer (1766–1841), who shaped the club in its important early days until his death. With the reorganization of Bavaria in 1838, the rain district was renamed Upper Palatinate . The association then also changed its name to Historical Association for Upper Palatinate and Regensburg . The title of the magazine has also been adjusted.

On November 15, 1933, the association was brought into line in line with the Nazi regime and Walter Boll was elected its “leader”. In an extraordinary general meeting, the so-called Aryan paragraph and the Führer principle were introduced and the corresponding paragraphs in the association's statutes were adapted.
After the end of the war in 1945, the American military government dissolved the association. It was not re-established until February 16, 1949, and the old statutes came into force again.
