history

Manor Ottengrün - around 1850

The place name of German origin Ottengrün probably means "clearing of an Otto". The place was in 1400 in a document of Margrave William of Meissen mentioned, the one Albert Tosel with an estate in Ottengrün plus 4 subjects invested . Without a doubt, however, the once powerful noble family von Sack had possessions on site, as the castle in neighboring Sachsgrün is their ancestral seat. In 1430 there were Hussite incursions in the area . After von Sack, Ottengrün owned the Lords of Pöllnitz . The von Tettau family owned the property in the 16th century . In May 1525 the Ottengrüner farmers took part in the peasant uprising , moved to Plauen , but gave up after 5 days of negotiations.

Until 1529 Ottengrün belonged to the Markgraftum Brandenburg-Kulmbach , like some surrounding places . In an exchange agreement between Georg von Brandenburg on the one hand and Johann von Sachsen on the other hand, the area was assigned to the Electorate of Saxony . The place then belonged to the Voigtsberg office until the 19th century .

The Thirty Years War caused the greatest devastation . Coming from court , General Holk moved with his 16,000-strong army on August 11, 1632 towards Oelsnitz and plundered, murdered and pillaged. In 1633 Holk came to the area for the last time, because he died not far, in the manor in Troschenreuth , on September 9 of the plague.

Ottengrün once had a ring wall system , the moat of which lasted until the 1960s. 1494 first surfaced in documents a Vorwerk on which later became a manor was. The stately mansion with eight-sided corner turrets, built after the Thirty Years' War, was demolished in 1949, although it was a listed building. In 1954, due to its proximity to the border with Bavaria, the place came into the 5 km exclusion zone and until 1989 could only be reached with a pass. In 1994 the village merged with Bösenbrunn, Bobenneukirchen and Schönbrunn to form the municipality of Bösenbrunn.
