Otto Dinger (born August 25, 1860 in Düsseldorf , † January 22, 1928 in Berlin ) was a German portrait , genre and landscape painter as well as a graphic artist and illustrator of the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Dinger, son of the Düsseldorf painter and copper engraver Fritz Dinger and his wife Maria, née Nohl (1830–1915), studied from 1878 to 1883 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , where he was trained in portrait and genre subjects. Like his father, he was a member of the Düsseldorf artists' association Malkasten . In 1885 he went to the United States . There he lived for a few years as a panorama painter in Milwaukee , Wisconsin . In 1889 he returned to Germany and settled in Charlottenburg near Berlin. From 1890 he studied with Karl Köpping at the Berlin Academy . In 1891 he exhibited for the first time in Berlin. At that time his work consisted of oil paintings, engravings and watercolors . At the end of the 19th century he made a trip to Brazil . In 1899 he had a solo exhibition there in Porto Alegre . From 1904 to 1911, Dinger was represented with etchings at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition .
