Otto Hofner (sculptor)

Otto Hofner (born March 29, 1879 in Vienna ; † March 13, 1946 there ) was an Austrian sculptor and medalist .

Life

Otto Hofner completed a four-year apprenticeship as a goldsmith , engraver and chaser . From 1898 he attended the arts and crafts school with Stefan Schwartz . Study trips took him to Paris , Holland , Belgium and London . 1904–1915 he worked as a teacher at the cooperative college for gold and silversmiths in Vienna, but was also active as a freelance artist. From 1909 he was a member of the Künstlerhaus . Otto Hofner was buried in an honorary grave in the Hietzingen cemetery after his death .

Otto Hofner created goldsmith work, medals , plaques and portrait reliefs. Sculptures, busts and grave monuments were erected by him in the time of Red Vienna for public spaces (e.g. in community housing ).
