Otto Moritz von Vegesack

Otto Moritz Freiherr von Vegesack (* July 7 . Jul / 19th July  1807 greg. In Riga , † March 3 jul. / 15. March  1874 greg. In Hamburg ) was a Russian diplomat .

Otto Moritz belonged to the Baltic German noble family von Vegesack . His parents were the Livonian knighthood secretary Ernst Moritz von Vegesack (1773-1816) and his wife Karoline Elisabeth, née. Kroeger.

Vegesack attended the Gouvernements-Gymnasium in Riga, passed the Abitur there in 1825 and then studied (until 1828) law at the University of Dorpat . In 1832 he entered the diplomatic service of the Russian Empire . After working as an embassy secretary in Athens , Berlin and Munich (1850-1864), he served from 1864 as chargé d'affaires and from 1866 as Minister Resident free for the three Hanseatic cities of Hamburg , Bremen and Lübeck . He was also accredited in the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg and the Duchy of Braunschweig . In 1873 Vegesack was appointed to the Privy Council .

Otto Moritz von Vegesack died in office in 1874.
