Otto Voisard (born May 18, 1927 in Vienna ; † May 11, 1992 ibid) was a German-Austrian industrial manager.

Life

Otto Voisard completed his school education in Vienna and Berlin . In 1944 he was drafted into World War II as a flak helper (Vienna) , then deployed on a torpedo boat (T35) that was responsible for escorting the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen . After the end of the war, he passed his secondary school diploma and studied mechanical engineering at the Vienna University of Technology , graduating in 1951 with a degree in engineering.

Otto Voisard gained his first professional experience at Alpine in Donawitz (Austria). Here he met his future wife Gertrude Lenk, after the marriage the couple emigrated to Germany (3 sons). Otto Voisard began his work at MAN in Augsburg, and after a short time he was appointed personal assistant to the then CEO Neumann. From 1956 to 1969 he worked at the MAN technical office in Hamburg in the construction of ship engines and crane systems, most recently as office manager.

In 1969 he moved to the new MTU founded by Mercedes and MAN (Munich and Friedrichshafen: aircraft engine construction and diesel engines) as managing director, and since then he has worked closely with Prof. Dr. hc Werner Niefer , Mercedes-Benz . During this period, MTU was awarded an important contract to build F-4 Phantom II engines under license, in close collaboration with Dr. hc Gerhard Neumann , then Vice President of General Electric.

In 1974 Otto Voisard returned to MAN as a member of the Management Board for Commercial Vehicles, and in 1976 a major order for 1200 buses to Algeria. In 1979 Otto Voisard was appointed CEO of MAN . In 1981 he merged with Burmeister & Wain (B&W). Back then, the order to convert the British Queen Elizabeth 2 from steam turbines to MAN B&W diesel engines caused a stir . In 1981 he received the Bavarian Order of Merit from the then Prime Minister Franz Josef Strauss .

In 1986 he was appointed with the participation of the then General Director of Creditanstalt (CA) Dr. Hannes Androsch was brought to Vienna (Austria) as General Director of Steyr Daimler Puch . The beginning of the cooperation with Chrysler under the then Chairman Lee Iacocca should be mentioned, which in 1988 led to the opening of a Chrysler plant in Graz and the construction of the Chrysler Voyager . In addition, close cooperation with Mercedes (Prof. Dr. Werner Niefer ) in the production of the transmission for the Mercedes G and the Puch G in Graz. In 1991 Otto Voisard was awarded the Great Golden Decoration for Services to the Republic of Austria .

Otto Voisard died on May 11, 1992 in the General Hospital of the City of Vienna after a brief serious illness. He found his final resting place in the Westfriedhof in Munich .
