Otto von Derenthall

Otto von Derenthall (born October 5, 1831 in Butow , Saatzig district , † December 8, 1910 in Weimar ) was a Prussian officer , most recently a general of the infantry .

Life

Otto was the son of the Prussian major a. D. August von Derenthall, Herr auf Butow and Pustamin , and his wife Luise, née von der Marwitz . The family's ancestors came from the Westphalian nobility .

After attending the Friedrich-Wilhelms- and Joachimthalschens-Gymnasium in Berlin on February 4, 1851, Derenthall joined the 1st Guards Regiment on foot as a fusilier . There he was appointed non-commissioned officer on May 31, 1851 and ensign on October 14, 1851 . Promoted to Second Lieutenant on December 14, 1852 , he served as Adjutant of the Fusilier Battalion from August 8, 1856 .

In 1866 he took part in the German War and in 1870/71 in the Franco-German War . Derenthall was commissioned as a lieutenant colonel with the management of his regular regiment on October 28, 1875 and was appointed its commander on September 20, 1876 while being promoted to colonel . Left in this position, on March 22, 1881, he was appointed Wing Adjutant of Kaiser Wilhelm I. In 1882 he was then commissioned to lead the 2nd Guard Infantry Brigade. Promoted to major general on May 15, 1883 , he became brigade commander. In 1885 he was appointed commandant of Berlin appointed between 1 April 1887 to 11 July 1888, he led the 33rd Division in Metz on 15 March 1890 he was with the character of a general of infantry to the disposition provided.

Derenthall, who was a legal knight of the Order of St. John, was granted permission to wear the uniform of the 1st Guard Regiment on foot on May 30, 1900.

He married Caroline Friederike Mathilde Laura Ida von Berg on October 3, 1864 (* September 6, 1841). The couple had several children including:
