Otto Julius Wilhelm Maximilian Strubberg , from 1858 von Strubberg (born September 16, 1821 in Lübbecke , † November 9, 1908 in Berlin ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

origin

Strubberg came from a family from Osnabrück Abbey , which is recorded in Borgloh around 1650 . He was the son of Jacob Strubberg (* August 5, 1770 in Kleve , † June 27, 1826 in Lübbecke) and his wife Marie Sophie, born Dörsch (* January 23, 1778; † 15 January 1852).

Military career

Strubberg was educated in his youth in the cadet houses of Potsdam and Berlin. On August 8, 1839, he was transferred to the 30th Infantry Regiment as a second lieutenant . Within the regiment, Strubberg was used as a battalion adjutant from January 1, 1842 to July 31, 1843. On October 15, 1843, he was sent to the General War School for further training . He then became a teacher in the Berlin Cadet House and, in 1849, was transferred to the troops that were supposed to put down the Baden Revolution .

In 1852 he was transferred to Paris for two years to learn the French language and was promoted to lieutenant prime minister in the same year . It was used several times in the General Staff . With the rank of captain in the general staff, he was raised to the Prussian nobility on January 1, 1858 in Berlin . The following year he became the personal adjutant of the Prince of Prussia, who appointed him as King Wilhelm I on January 7, 1861, as his wing adjutant .

Strubberg then took part in the campaigns against Denmark (1864) and Austria (1866) as the commander of Queen Augusta Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 4 . In the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, as leader of the 30th Infantry Brigade, he was given a special opportunity to distinguish himself. So on August 18th at the Battle of Gravelotte , near Amiens , Hallue , Sapignies and St. Quentin .

In 1873 Strubberg became lieutenant general and commander of the 19th division in Hanover. In 1880 he was promoted to General Inspector of the General Inspectorate of Military Education and, as such, to General of the Infantry in 1883, after converting the teaching of the cadet corps from the previous course into that of a secondary school.

In 1888 he was placed à la suite of the cadet corps and on August 8, 1889 appointed chief of the infantry regiment "Graf Werder" (4th Rheinisches) No. 30 . In 1890 it was put up for disposal . In 1908 he celebrated his 40th anniversary as a general, but died a little later and was buried in the officers cemetery on Linienstraße in Berlin.

Awards

In 1871 Strubberg was awarded the Iron Cross First Class and the order Pour le Mérite . In 1885 he received the Grand Cross of the Red Eagle Order with Oak Leaves and Swords on the Ring, in 1897 the brilliant diamonds for the Grand Cross and on October 21, 1902 the Order of Merit of the Prussian Crown .
