The peiker acustic GmbH was until its takeover by the Valeo Group end of 2015, a family business with headquarters in Friedrichsdorf in the Hochtaunuskreis in Hesse and more than 940 employees worldwide, which extends over more than 60 years, including in the manufacture of microphones, loudspeakers Handsets for radio and mobile telephony , hands-free systems as well as vehicle multimedia solutions and the integration of other mobile devices. From 2007 to 2015 peiker was 100 percent indirectly in the hands of the founding family. The management was incumbent on Andreas Peiker as chairman of the management, Reinhard Kromer-von Baerle was also managing director, while Helmut Rothenberger was chairman of the supervisory board.
The main building in the Max-Planck-Straße industrial area in Friedrichsdorf has production, storage and administrative space, and its own plastic injection molding shop is located in the neighboring Köppern district . history
In 1946 Heinrich Peiker and his father-in-law Paul Beerwald founded the company “Beerwald & Co.” to manufacture and sell piezoelectric and acoustic devices. Back then, the company's headquarters were in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe . The big breakthrough came with the development of a piezo sound cell microphone ( crystal microphone ), the electrical adjustment of which was precisely tailored to the tube amplifiers that were common at the time. This model is considered to be the Peiker “original microphone” and has been revised and improved several times over the years.
In 1957, American balloonist Major David G. Simons was the first person to climb over 30,000 m above sea level, wearing a special microphone from peiker integrated into his helmet. Four years later, the peiker TM70 handheld microphone was used for UHER-Report tape recorders as the first microphone on a Himalayan ascent.
In the following year the company headquarters was relocated to Ober-Eschbach , in 1967 the company name (company) also changed to "PEIKER acustic, factory electroacoustic devices, Heinrich Peiker" GmbH & Co. KG.
10 years later, Heinrich Peiker by the Hessian Minister of Economics, was Heinz-Herbert Karry the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany awarded the Order of Merit in recognition of his entrepreneurial and social benefits.
In order to keep the company, which was constantly producing new microphone and loudspeaker variants, in family hands, Andreas Peiker (managing director since 1981) took over management after the death of his father in 1983.
In the following years, a change in the company's portfolio became apparent: with the development of handsets for mobile communications , the first car hands-free system for Siemens and the first digital answering machine for Alcatel , peiker entered a new product division as an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) . The focus shifted more and more to the supply of communication solutions for the mobile communications and automotive industries , which gradually replaced microphone production as the mainstay of the company.
In 1992 the company headquarters and company changed. "Peiker acustic GmbH & Co. KG" is now headquartered in the Max-Planck-Straße industrial area in Friedrichsdorf im Taunus. At the same time, pei tel Communications GmbH was established in Berlin / Teltow to develop and sell the peiker standard program. In addition, the partnership with ALAC GmbH, a manufacturer of multimedia hands-free systems, was established.
In 1993 peiker founded its first subsidiary abroad: “peiker France Sarl” (today: “peiker France SAS”) based in Poissy, Paris .
In 1996 the new branch "peiker Inc." was opened in Auburn, USA. In 1999 this location was relocated to Dallas.
In 2000, peiker, in cooperation with ELSA, launched one of the world's first Bluetooth hands- free systems for vehicles.
Two years later peiker acustic opened a technical office in Detroit .
Another production site was opened in 2004: “peiker Mexico” in Ciudad Juárez . In the same year, the Böblingen Competence Center was founded, which is primarily dedicated to voice input systems and vehicle connections.
In 2005 peiker developed the first complete integration of the Apple iPod in a vehicle.
In June 2006 peiker inaugurated the new logistics center with over 3000 m² on the premises of the headquarters in Friedrichsdorf.
In 2008 it was decided to purchase the neighboring property, measuring 12,000 m², in the interest of further expansion.
In 2011 peiker developed an automotive-compatible module that can carry out the EU-compliant, automatic emergency call eCall . These telematics units now form the company's main business area.
In December 2015 peiker was sold to the French automotive supplier Valeo for an undisclosed price.
