The Prussian G 5.2 was a triple-coupled freight locomotive with a compound engine that was built from 1896. As with other Prussian steam locomotives, the same type was built in twin G 5.1 and composite G 5.2 . The composite locomotives were more economical and more powerful than the twin designs; they were more suitable for longer distances with little stopping. The newly used air brakes made it possible to use this locomotive for passenger trains, which was often used on the Prussian State Railways due to its smooth running . A total of 499 examples were built for Prussia between 1896 and 1901. The Reichseisenbahnen in Alsace-Lorraine acquired 215 vehicles between 1900 and 1908 (see Alsace-Lorraine G 5 ).

In 1923 , the Reichsbahn added 302 of these 714 vehicles to its steam locomotive designation plan as 54 201 - 502. However, 13 locomotives remained abroad. In 1925, the remaining locomotives were given the operating numbers 54 201 - 54 386. Of these, a total of 23 with the operating numbers 54 324, 54 343 and 344, 54 353 and 54 368 - 386 came from the Reichseisenbahnen in Alsace-Lorraine . The G 5.2 was retired by the end of 1931.

After the First World War , 74 machines came to Poland and were classified as Ti2 by the PKP . During the Second World War , 23 G 5.2s from Poland came into the Reichsbahn's inventory as 54 701 - 723. Among them were also former Alsace-Lorraine machines with the 54 708 - 717 and 54 723. After the end of the war, eight locomotives remained with the PKP, which were retired by 1954.

The vehicles were traveling with a Tender equipped to type pr 3 T 12th
