The Packhof is a Packhof built in 1840 in Hann. Münden in southern Lower Saxony . Together with the nearby Alten Packhof, it was used to store goods from long-distance trade across the Fulda , Weser and Werra rivers during the 19th century . The listed Packhof is located on the banks of the Werra on the Wanfrieder Schlagd . Today it is used for cultural events such as theater performances.

The Packhof is a two-wing building with three and a half floors, which is located in the north-western tip of the historic old town center of Hann. Münden stands. The building with its 40-meter-long facade stands out strongly from the surrounding buildings with smaller - scale half - timbered houses . With its block-like structure, the Packhof seals off the old town from the north. The facades of the building, which is designed in the classicist style, are kept simple. While the basement consists of stone (sandstone), the floors above are made of plastered brickwork . The building has three wooden entrance portals facing the river. On the two side wings of the building there is a 6 meter high wooden entrance gate that leads to the inner courtyard. The floors inside are a frame construction made of spruce wood, the maximum ceiling loads of which are designed for 400 kg / m².

The ship's cargo was unloaded from the berthing ships at the Schlagdspitze with the aid of a crane and transported by wagon into the previously covered courtyard of the Packhof, where all the loading traffic took place. Today there is a replica of a wooden crane. It used to be used to unload goods from the car. The goods were then pulled up to the loading hatches of the packing yard with hand winches .

First, the city of Münden had the Old Packhof built on the Bremer Schlagd in 1837 . In 1838 the city decided to build another and much larger warehouse. The construction of the warehouses was in connection with the abolition of the Mündener stacking right by the Weserschifffahrtsakt von 1823. As early as 1814, the city ​​belonging to the Kingdom of Hanover was declared a foreign country and enjoyed customs exemption until 1838 . After that, duty-free goods had to be stored in a packing yard building as a duty-free area. To build the Packhof, the city of Münden had several residential buildings, two city gates and a piece of the city ​​wall of the medieval city ​​fortifications demolished in Münden in 1838 . A cast iron crane for loading and unloading the ships was set up in front of the Packhof building at the Schlagdspitze.

With the advent of the railway, which connected the cities of Kassel and Hanover as the Hannöversche Südbahn in 1856 , inland waterway traffic in Münden declined and the importance of the Packhof decreased. When shipping on the Werra came to a standstill in 1873, the Packhof was only used as a warehouse until 1880. Since then it has been mostly empty, especially since 1905 when the Schlagden was abandoned as a ship landing stage. After that, the freight traffic ran through the newly built Weser transshipment point in 1906 . The loans of 50,000 thalers taken out by the city of Münden  for the construction of the Packhof buildings were not paid off until 1918. Its construction is considered to be the city's biggest financial mistake.
