The Parumer See is located in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania west of Güstrow in the municipality of Gülzow-Prüzen . With 207 hectares, it is one of the larger lakes in the Rostock district. Its length is 3.5 kilometers and the greatest width about one kilometer. The water is known as a local recreation area and, with the surrounding reed beds and marshland, is ecologically interesting.
The lake and its surroundings are part of the FFH area Nebeltal with tributaries, connected lakes and adjacent forests .

The Parumer See is glacial and belongs to the Mecklenburg Lake District . As a shallow channel lake, it is subject to increasing siltation . The maximum depth is 2.8 meters.

Water condition
Polymictic conditions prevail in the water . The lake is polytrophic , rich in limestone and has a very high pH value (> 9). Nutrient-rich tributaries, high nutrient content in the water and a large reservoir of nutrients in the Mudde lead to high biomass production that can no longer be broken down by the lake. In its genesis, Lake Parum approaches dystrophic conditions.
Flora and fauna
There is a pronounced reed belt around the water. Adjacent there are fens and swamps with local occurrences of orchids . In Bülower Burg there is a park with beech trees. Hollow larkspur , the anemone and other early bloomers bloom there in spring . In the area of the Parumer See there are 13 species of fish, amphibians and various bird species. Together with the swamp lake and island lake , the region was included as an IBA ( Important Bird Area ).

The lake is a local recreation area with corresponding uses. There are cottage settlements in Bülower Burg and Parum . There are also several swimming spots around the lake. The water is very suitable for swimming.
