At the beginning of May 2012, he completed a three-day trial training session in Germany at the Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05 , but there was no commitment.

On January 9, 2013 Banggaard received his first professional contract with FC Midtjylland . Before the start of the second half of the 2012/13 season, he fell ill with Pfeiffer glandular fever and was therefore not used for the first time until the end of April 2013. Since then he has been a regular player. With FC Midtjylland he became Danish champions in 2015 . He was eliminated with the team in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League . In the Europa League 2015/16 they then reached the round of 32 . Bangaard had played 110 competitive games for FC Midtjylland by summer 2017.

Germany, the Netherlands and Cyprus

On January 31, 2017, Banggaard moved to the German Bundesliga for SV Darmstadt 98 . His contract ran until 2020. In the second half of the 2016/17 season , he was used in nine games and played each of these games over the full distance. He rose with the team as the bottom of the table from the Bundesliga. In the second highest German league, he played nine games (one goal).

Shortly before the end of the winter transfer period, he switched to the Dutch first division club Roda JC Kerkrade on January 31, 2018 on loan until the end of the season . At Roda JC Kerkrade he fought for a regular place and was used in all 14 games until the end of regular time, where he completed all games over the full distance and was also used twice in the promotion and relegation play-offs . With Roda he descended from the Eredivisie.

At the beginning of August 2018 it was awarded again, this time to the Cypriot first division club Paphos FC . There Banggaard fought for a regular place and came to 20 games in the regular season; in the following relegation round , for which Paphos FC qualified eighth in the table, he played in nine games. At the end of the season there was relegation.

Return to Denmark

After his loan contract expired, Banggaard did not return to Darmstadt, but joined the Danish first division club SønderjyskE Fodbold at the beginning of the 2019/20 season . There he signed a four-year contract.

National team

On May 22, 2017, Banggaard was nominated for the Danish U21 national team for the U21 European Championship 2017 by the U21 national coach Niels Frederiksen after appearances in the age groups U16 to U19 .
