Paul Alfred Stübel (born April 3, 1827 in Dresden ; † March 9, 1895 ibid) was a German politician ( National Liberal Party ) and Lord Mayor of Dresden .

Paul Alfred Stübel, who holds a doctorate in law , was born on April 3, 1827 as the son of City Court Councilor Carl Julius Stübel and Julie Kupfer in a house at Dresden's Frauenkirche . He was married to his cousin Ida Stübel (1832-1919), the sister of the naturalist Moritz Alphons Stübel .

He attended the Cross School , put on the Prince's School St. Afra a high school and studied in Leipzig jurisprudence . Here he joined the Afrania country team .

In 1853, Stübel established himself as a lawyer in Dresden . From 1856 he worked in the city council colloquium and headed the finance committee, in 1866 he was elected to the city council and appointed head of the building department. Here he put through a complete redesign of civil engineering. The first Dresden waterworks, the Saloppe, goes back to him. Stübel sponsored the establishment of the Dresden City Museum and the Dresden City Libraries .

From 1877 until his death in 1895, Stübel held the office of Lord Mayor of Dresden, which meant that he was a member of the first chamber of the Saxon state parliament . In the general election in 1881 Stübel the 5th Saxon constituency was (Dresden left the Elbe) in the Reichstag voted, where he remained as a non-attached Members for a term of up to 1884th

In 1891 he was made an honorary citizen of Dresden. The Stübelallee in Dresden city center, which was completed in 1895 and named after him, is only one of the legacies of his tenure. In addition, the Academy of Fine Arts Dresden elected Stübel as an honorary member.

From 1898 to 1951, today's Straßburger Platz in Dresden was called “Stübelplatz”.

Due to his poor health, Stübel applied for his release on March 31, 1895, but he died in office on March 9. His grave is in the old Annenfriedhof in the Dresden Südvorstadt .
