Paul Monash
Paul Monash (born June 14, 1917 in Harlem , New York City , † January 14, 2003 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American screenwriter and film producer .
Life
Paul Monash was born in Harlem, New York to silent film actress Rhoda Melrose and later grew up in the Bronx . He later received his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his master's degree from Columbia University . An aspiring writer, he later joined the United States Merchant Marine and drove across the country. He was looking for the right material to write the Great American Novel . He wrote for the United States Army during World War II and then spent three years in Greenwich Village trying to find the right story. More years followed in Paris , where he devoted himself to art. Although he found the right material, but not the right words, he did not see his published novel How brave we live as successful.
However, he began to write for the radio and was able to celebrate his start in the television landscape with a script for the television series Foreign Intrigue . Several scripts for other series and the screenplay for the film Operation Manhunt followed , before he achieved greater success as a screenwriter with films such as Extrablatt , Nothing New in the West and Stalin . At the same time, he was also active as a film producer and produced films such as Two Bandits , Carrie - Des Satan's Youngest Daughter and Big Trouble in Little China .
In 2000 he was awarded the Laurel Award from the Writers Guild of America for Lifetime Achievement. He said that he just regrets never having written the great novel.
