from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paul Neu (born November 9, 1881 in Neuburg an der Donau , † March 16, 1940 in Munich ) was a Bavarian artist, designer and illustrator.

Life

Paul Neu was the son of a secondary school principal, lived in Neuburg (Danube) , Landau (Palatinate) and in Augsburg until he graduated from high school . From 1902 onwards, he studied architecture in Munich at the request of his father , but soon devoted himself exclusively to the design of illustrations, the graphic design of representational objects, commemorative publications, commers' writings, advertising stamps, postage stamps, postcards, leaded glass windows, cut-outs and posters. From 1902 Neu was able to publish his first work. He illustrated numerous brochures and books and designed ceramics in collaboration with Merkelbach and other pottery companies. Significant works were for the Jubilee Oktoberfest in 1910, for the exhibition grounds in Munich and for the Cisarenhaus , also in Munich, and for the Deutsche Bücherei in Leipzig .

For the Oktoberfest 1935 (Braune Wiesn) he designed the 125th anniversary mug.

In 1912 Paul Neu designed a series of advertising stamps and cards for the company Lazarus Eberhardt , Enzianbrennerei in Munich.

Among other things, he worked for the magazine “Feurjo” and the legendary magazine “ Die Jugend - Münchner Illustrierte Wochenschrift für Kunst und Leben”.

His studio apartment in Schwabing was destroyed in the great bombing raids on Munich in 1944. A large part of his estate was lost in the process. The house in Holzhausen remained undamaged.

Memorial exhibitions: 1941 together with works by Prof. Georgi in the Lenbachhaus, Munich. 1942 in the art association in the Maximiliansmuseum in Augsburg. 2010 in the gallery of the Kreissparkasse München-Starnberg in Starnberg.

The Paul-Neu-Archiv Hinrichsen can today prove the majority of his extensive work.
